FAQ's

Product FAQ's

1. Why aren't wood wicks offered in all candles?

Safety and a quality candle product come first. During testing, some of our jars were dangerously hot to touch and unusually sooty due to the shape of the jar (i.e. apothecary style jar with a smaller neck). Other jars that used the wood candle lids would have to be poured way less than the standard fill line, which would appear to be deceptive marketing or an abnormally low amount of wax product. Because Kaevia doesn't want our customers to have an unpleasant experience, we chose which jars would be best suited for the wood wicks.

2. Is Kaevia truly a 100% green/sustainable company?

Kaevia is just starting out and is not 100% sustainable at this time. In order to make Kaevia accessible to all, recyclable and biodegradable plastic is used in clamshell and Snapshell melts. However, we offer sustainable options for the consumer, such as Eco-Friendly fiber pulp packaging for those same melt recipes that are used in the plastic clamshell packaging.

3. Why does Kaevia use a soy blend that has a small amount of paraffin?

As with sustainability, Kaevia offers both 100% soy wax lines and soy wax blends to be accessible to all consumers' needs. Studies have shown that paraffin may be stigmatized and may not be as bad as often thought. A link to the National Candle Association FAQ page can be found at https://candles.org/faqs/. Some consumers may value a smoother-looking candle over a 100% natural candle, and Kaevia wants to be able to meet the needs of many different consumers. Kaevia is continuously experimenting with other wax types to find a wax that meets all consumer's wants.

4. Are the fragrances synthetic or 100% natural?

Kaevia carefully sources clean scents from reliable suppliers. However, essential oil use in candles can lead to a more expensive, less aromatic, and potentially more problematic experience. Few essential oils are used at this time. Our fragrance oils are phthalate-free and adhere to IFRA standards for safety and purity.

The National Candle Association is a good source to research fragrance oils further. https://candles.org/about-candles/faqs/

5. What is "Kaevia's Choice?"

This is essentially the Chandler's (candlemaker's) creation of choice available for sale. Chandlers experiment with new trends and products and may wish to offer them to the public. These items may eventually become a product line, or they may remain a one-of-a-kind item.
